My Story
Before I show you my choice for the best backpack diaper bags for dads like you and me, let me tell you how stumbled onto it. I am currently a father of a fifteen month old daughter. Recently, my little one began walking around faster and faster. She’s fast to the point where she can literally chase me into the bathroom even though my intention is to not let her in when I do my business.
Our family heads out a lot, especially over the weekends to have some family time. Even though it’s a lot of fun, it’s also a lot of headaches for me. Travelling out requires bringing a ton of stuff for “just in case” scenarios for my daughter. Examples of that would be things like:
- extra diapers
- baby wipes
- clothing (in case of blowouts)
- a hat
- water bottle
- baby food
- her favorite blanket (or she throws a tantrum when she is sleepy)
- some rattle toys
- baby snacks
Remembering to bring all this stuff is already a pain, but to make it worse, it’s a pain to find it in the bag we packed it in. You see, the bag we use is a regular purse looking bag with only two pockets. There’s a side pocket for some little stuff the rest of the bag has no more compartments.
We were at a shopping mall once, and my wife smelled something funny. A chill went up my spine because I know my daughter had a diaper blowout at the mall. I had no choice but to lay her down on bench in the shopping mall and changed her diapers there.
I don’t know about you, but my daughter isn’t very cooperative when it comes to changing her diaper. She struggles, and kicks as if I am trying to take away her favorite snacks. To make it worst, it’s a nightmare to hold her down with one hand trying to prevent her from scratching her poop infested butt while I search our unorganized bag for diapers and baby wipes.
This happened once when I visited a mall in New Jersey, and once in an outlet at Long Island. Finally, I became frustrated and made my decision. It’s time to get an actual diaper bag. At first, I was skeptical about their uses, because I don’t feel anything wrong about using an ordinary bag that’s lying around. However, seeing how a bag has ruined my every weekend, it’s time to do something before I lose all hope in enjoying family time.
The Search For The Perfect Diaper Bag
I began researching for a diaper bag that can make my busy life easier. At first I thought of getting a cheap diaper bag. I mean as long it works, then who needs to spend all that extra money on it?
However, after doing days of research, I realized that not any bag would actually work. You see, we put a lot of baby stuff in our bags when we head out. Many parents who bought cheap diaper bags noticed that they eventually have to buy another one, because they don’t last long from being lugged around. The reason is because the bag holds a lot of stuff, as I mentioned earlier. Sometimes, it feels like the amount of stuff we carry is almost the weight of our baby.
I don’t want my diaper bag to tear into pieces when I need it the most. I also don’t want to go for dumb brand names just to look cool with it, not to mention they are way too expensive for no reason.
This is the quality of the diaper bag I am looking for:
- have lots of pockets (I like being organized)
- looks relatively normal (I am tired of carrying my wife’s purse like bag)
- it has to be tough (so it doesn’t break down into pieces)
- I can still use it for other purposes after my child has grown up
- the price is balanced (I prefer quality function over fancy brands that have no meanings)
This sounds like mission impossible at first, because maybe I am asking for too much from a diaper bag. However, I found it anyway.
The Perfect Diaper- I Could Hardly Believe It
This bag has so many pockets. They are also very intelligently compartmentalized so I can easily reach for what I want. Of course, the most important items I need to reach for in times of emergencies are the diapers and the wipes. The front pocket is actually a convenient flap in which I quickly open to get my baby wipes. Check out this video to see what the bag looks like:
I can easily reach for my diapers at the top of the bag without fumbling through the my other stuff. This is pretty important for me, because nothing’s more scary than searching for a diaper in case of emergencies.
The side pockets can hold my huge thermos to keep hot water so I can mix formula. The middle pockets also has mesh compartments so I can easily find my diaper ointments.
The most interesting thing about this bag is that I can open it 180 degrees flat so it’s easy to see where everything is without taking everything out of the bag.
One thing I definitely don’t like about the bag is the fact that it’s slightly on the heavy side. I didn’t take that flaw too offensively though, because it’s made of tough quality material so no wonder why it can be a bit heavier than cheaply made bags. I like it tough anyway, because I can keep a laptop in it without worrying about damaging the bag with its weight.
For Future Purposes
Seeing how nicely organized and tough this is, it would be useful for the future too. Once all my children have grown up, I will use it as a travel bag. I can put a bunch of stuff in it and go anywhere with it. Do you want to get yourself a bag too? Grab yourself a backback diaper bag too. It will make your life much more convenient.
Try the bag and give me some feedback below. It will not disappoint you.
This is an interesting product and I like the fact that it does not look like a diaper bag. This is something that dads will probably appreciate a lot, because they will not feel like they are carrying a purse looking thing around.. I have a lot of dad friends who are looking for something like this. Do you think that this bag will last long?
This bag will last long alright. It is meant for fathers who are rough with their belongings. Of course, I am also assuming those are caring fathers.
That’s cool, the backpacks have a really nice design and are multifunctional to use. Do you know how many dipers you can fit in them? And are they comfortable to wear? I think you can also use them once your children are older, using the space for other stuff to store…
Well, I don’t know how many diapers you plan on fitting in there lol. To be honest, I would say almost as much as you want. There is a top pocket dedicated to storing diapers. I would stay it can store about ten diapers. However, there are many other pockets, so you can store much more than that. As for comfort, I would say that it is not really meant for the ladies, because it is a little heavy. However, it is built that way because it is made of a lot of tough materials to let it last long.
This bag looks great and when it opens up you could use it to lay a baby in a change the babies diaper depending on the size of the baby. Lots of pockets to put the things you need to take care of a baby and to keep things organized, as you will know see clearing when you need to restock the diaper bag. When the baby has grown out of the diaper age this bag would have other uses.
Yes you are right. It is not going to be a “diaper bag” forever. Once all babies have grown up, it would make a great hiking and traveling bag. You can hold a lot of different things. Instead of baby bottles, you can hold regular sports water bottles. The sky is the limit.
That is a very interesting diaper bag. I am mom of a 10 month old and I could relate every word about packing to go out with my daughter for longer than 4 hours. I do have a diaper bag but if you pack all the stuff my baby can possibly need, oh, man, it gets so heavy, especially having it on my shoulder! The duper back under review does not even look like a diaper bag 😀 it looks like an ordinary backpack which is awesome! And my husband, I bet, won’t be against having it 🙂 Thank you for the review! we will definitely be looking into buying it
I am sure your husband will love this diaper bag. I believe that men in general likes their belongings to function well. With this many pockets, it will be his new best toy. He can probably put a couple of his own personal stuff in there too when you guys are out traveling.
CUTE, I love your very descriptive narration of the mall bench, too funny! I was looking for a bag for my son to use with my new grandbaby, he would love this. I love it when you can find a multifunction bag, a diaper bag that doesn’t look like a diaper bag is wonderful and the guys won’t be afraid to carry it. Thank You for the review
Yep. Guys like me have a soft heart for babies, but “girly diaper bags” seriously make us cringe no matter how much we care for our little one. We also know that it is a lot to carry for the ladies. This is why I love this diaper bag. Guys like me can wear it without any hesitation. I am willing to accept the burden of carrying all the stuff as long I do not look like a guy with weird fetishes. I hope your son likes the bag too.
That’s an awesome bag. Has everything you need. It has to be multifunctional so you can plan what goes in and have no hesitation when looking for what you need.
Was there any other bags you found? Something that was better or worse? The diaper bag I use is more feminine but is still a great back pack.
Yea it has many pockets with each pocket having a specific purpose in mind. It really is a multifunctional bag. There were other bags available, but they were either very flimsy, didn’t last long, or lack in functinality. I was looking for a bag that can take abuse. It might sound like I am abusive with my personal items, but I am seriously not. I am simply clumsy often and I bump into things. This bag will be able to “tolerate” my clumsiness. You should give it a try too if you find yourself clumsy often.
Wow that’s an amazing diaper back pack. I think every Dad should have one. I usually pack our diaper bag and my husband would know exactly how you felt when you couldn’t find anything in your other bag. Usually I pack the diaper bag and I have a tendency to pack a lot of things for the ‘just in case’. But this bag looks awesome and I could still pack everything I wanted/needed.
Yea I know what you mean. There are always so many things we want to pack into the diaper bag but it adds up quickly and things are hard to find when you stack everything together. Your husband will love this diaper bag for its organization. No mo, “where did I put that diaper cream” anymore
Wow! That’s an amazing diaper back pack! I have a more feminine diaper bag but this looks like the perfect solution to my husband’s problem of not finding the things our sons need at that moment.
It would be the perfect bag even after the boys are grown to take to a picnic or a day trip.
I realized that a lot of diaper bags lean towards the “ladies” kind of style. Nowadays, I believe that most men shares the burden of helping out with taking care of the baby so it is only fair we have a hard core bag that is meant for the men. It is very functional so give it a try.
This is the coolest diaper backpack I’ve seen. I really like the design and options. I would get it because it doesn’t look like a diaper bag and that’s important for me even as a woman as I like things that serve multiple purposes, so after the diapers are no longer needed, it can be used for another purpose. I have 5 children and this hits home. One more to get completely out of diapers. Thank you for presenting a great idea for dads and overall for anyone.
I am glad you like it. I really liked this diaper bag myself because I didn’t want to hang my wife’s “purse” around my neck all the time. I am planning on using it as a bag for hiking or camping trip in the future when I no longer need to use it for my kids.
I couldn’t agree more! It is almost impossible to hold a baby down with one hand and rummage through a bag with the other.
The results of smearing poo are awful!
I started of with a pretty big tote bag for my diaper bag but because I don’t use a pram it gets quite heavy carrying it around. So I have been on the market for a backpack. This is great for moms who carry baby in a front pack and a tote diaper bag is just getting too hard on the ol shoulders. Thanks for the recommendation!
I am glad you find it helpful. However, this bag might lean more towards the heavy side for the ladies because it is made of tough materials. You can let your husband try using it to see if he likes it. Of course, if you are a tough lady yourself, then you will find this diaper bag backpack extremely useful.
Hi! I decided to find a good diaper bag to make running easier. I run a lot and inreally want to use the diaper bag for than just holding my baby stuff. This is why a functional diaper bag is very important. I can snap this diaper backpack on, load it with coconut water and run the miles without worrying about it being damaged in the process. It is very nice. Thank you.
I am glad it helps you. This diaper bag is perfect for active moms too. Happy running.
